WAYNESBORO- The Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library has announced their March programs. The library is located at 45 East Main Street in Waynesboro. Registration is at www.AHMFL.org

ADULT PROGRAMS

Thursday, March 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, 9:00 – 9:30 AM
Join us for our weekly virtual Adult Story Time shared on the library’s Facebook page. We are taking our stories for the month of March from the book, “Forgotten Tales of Pennsylvania” written by Thomas White. Plan to join us to see what you can learn about our state!

Socrates Café
Thursday, March 2 and 16
What is Socrates Café? It’s a gathering where people thoughtfully exchange ideas about existential/philosophical questions, with maximum respect for others’ opinions. The library’s Socrates Café is only one of hundreds around the world.

Book Bites With Kiara (Virtual)

Hooks & Needles: Making a Basket

Come join us for our Hooks & Needles Program at the library. Our program will give you the option of bringing with you what you are working on and joining in our group that talks about their current projects and shares ideas and encouragement. This is a great place to share your ideas or to learn some new stitching skills. We will also be exploring a new basket pattern and starting one in this program. Get the list of supplies needed for this project from the circulation desk and plan to join us.

Senior Book Bingo
Friday, March 10, 10:30 – 11:30 AM
Seniors over 60 — come play Book Bingo with the library at the Waynesboro Senior Activity Center. Playing is free and you can select a book for every game that you win. Zentangle Fun

Come join us today for a time of creativity and meditation. Registration is required at the library. Registration fee for the class is $2.00. In today’s class, we will be learning how to use border tangles to make letters.

Paint & Sip
Tuesday, March 14, 5:00 – 6:30 PM
We are trying something new at our March Paint & Sip — we will be painting coasters. Join us for this fun session. Best of all, you get to take your wonderful creation home with you at the end of the class. Materials are supplied. Spaces are limited so you will want to stop by the library to pay your registration fee and sign up. This is a program tailored for adult participants, not children.

Diamond Painting

Senior Hooks & Needles

Are you 60 or over and want to join a group of crocheters & knitters? Why not stop by Waynesboro Senior Center for the library’s Hooks & Needles Program. When All Else Fails…..Body Groove

Want to get in some exercise, but can’t afford or don’t like gyms? Can’t dance but you can move? Want to get in a little exercise (that doesn’t feel like exercise)? Put on some comfortable clothes and shoes and come groove at the library. This fun program will be video led with library staff providing fun & encouragement. And the beautiful thing is everyone works at their own pace! This program is free but registration is required at the library.

Teen Programs

Anime Club
March 1, 15, 4:00 PM
Teens ages 12-18, do you love to watch anime, read manga, and even draw characters? Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library invites you to join us for Anime Club, where we will be making kandi bracelets (with pony beads). Anime Club is a regular program at the library on 1st & 3rd Wednesdays. We read & discuss our favorite / least favorite manga, choose anime shows & movies to watch together, and do various games, crafts, & other activities related to Japanese culture. Want to co-lead a club meeting? See Miss Gina at the library.

Art Saturday Kits
March 18th
Teens and pre-teens, stop by the Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library to pick up your free art kit, featuring all the supplies you will need to make the project of the month. Art Saturday Kits are a regular take-home program at the library on the 3rd Saturday of each month. Kits are available for pickup on the 3rd Saturday & the following week or as long as supplies last. First come, first served & one kit per person please. Kits consist of a paper bag containing all (or most of) the supplies you’ll need to complete an art or craft project at home. The instructions are usually via a video link (also posted on our social media). Art Kits are geared towards teens ages 12-18, but older kids are welcome to give it a try, too.

Homeschool Club
March 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, 10:30-12:30
Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library hosts a parent-led Homeschool Enrichment Club, where participants in grades K-12 participate in art activities, STEM challenges, and more. Each week has a different theme, with teens & kids sometimes splitting into groups, or staying together, depending on the activities. Activities are subject to change, since club members will be brainstorming and voting on what they’d like to do next throughout the year. Planned activity: Bean Sprout Experiments.

In the Kitchen with Gina (Online)
February 28th
Join Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library for our latest “In the Kitchen” video with Teen Services Librarian Miss Gina. These videos are geared towards teens, those new to cooking, and anyone who likes new ideas for easy and (mostly) healthy recipes! This is a regular library video series on 4th Tuesdays. We post on the library’s YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram (we go by the library’s full name on YouTube & Facebook; on Instagram we are @AlexHamiltonLibrary and @ahmfl_teens).

Local Author Visit: Kalee Oravec
March 7th, 4:00 PM
Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library invites you to meet local author Kalee Oravec, who will speak about her YA fiction book, What We Need to Survive. Kalee will talk about how she got her ideas for the book, why she chose to write about PTSD & mental health, and how she got started as a writer. She will also do a short creative writing activity, followed by a book signing with books available for purchase ($15 each—cash, check, or Venmo). This event is geared towards both adults and teens.

Pokemon Club
March 11th, 1:30-2:45 PM
Kids and Teens ages 9-18, Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library invites you to join us for Pokemon Club! This club is dedicated to battling via the Pokemon card game. If you don’t already know how to play, leaders Chad & Kurt Ewell will teach you everything you need to know! Feel free to bring your own deck if you have one. We will also have decks here. Pokemon Club is a regular library program on 2nd Saturdays, 1:30-2:45 PM in the 2nd floor Community Room.

Teen Game Nights (Online)

Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library hosts Teen Game Night via Discord. Teens ages 13-18, do you have a smartphone, tablet, PC, and/or console that you play games on? Do you have online games to play & no one to play with? Looking for a game to play but don’t know where to start? Join us on our AHMFL Teen Discord to see what games are happening! We play online multiplayer games such as Among Us, Jackbox, Unfortunate Spacemen, Gartic Phone, Minecraft, and more. Put in your vote for what you want to play! To join us, you’ll need to be a member of AHMFL’s Teen Discord, since this is how we meet up, choose games, & share codes to access our game lobbies. To become a member, teens must return a permission slip signed by a parent/guardian. Please contact AHMFL Teen Librarian Miss Gina at (717) 762-3335 to request a slip. Unfortunately, Discord has a strict age 13+ policy, so we direct 12-yr-old patrons to try our in-person Game Nights instead, until they turn 13.

Online Teen Game Nights are a regular program on alternating Tuesdays, 5:45-6:45 PM.

Teen Laser Tag Night

Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library invites teens ages 12-18 to sign up for our spring laser tag event. This is a special, teens-only, after-hours event, with pizza and snacks included. Registration is Required – please stop by the library or call us to sign up.

Teen MakerSpace Days
March 21st, 4:00-5:30 PM
Pre-teens and teens ages 10-18, join Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library for a new project in the library’s MakerSpace: Macrame Bracelets. Teen MakerSpace is a regular library program on 1st & 3rd Tuesdays, where we explore various STEAM-related topics (Science Technology Engineering Arts Math). Read to a dog at Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library! Did you know that reading to trained therapy dogs can increase a person’s desire and ability to read? Kids’ LEGO Club

LEGO Club for ages 5-11 will meet at Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library. LEGO Club is a regular library programs on 1st Thursdays. We have a new building challenge or activity each month! Bring Legos from home OR use the Legos at the Library.

Preschool Story Time

A Bedtime Story

Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library will host our Bedtime Story program on Sunday evenings at 7:00 PM. A variety of stories will be shared by staff and the community.

Book Tasting

Join us each week as we share a chapter or two from one of the books in our Juvenile section. Staff will be choosing some of their favorite books to share with you. What a great way to get just a taste of the story that our books offer.

Children’s Book Club
March 23rd, 4:00 – 5:00 PM
Attention kids!! The library is starting a book club just for you. We will meet for the first time on Thursday, March 23rd in of space so registration will be required. Stop by the library and register. There will be a limited number of the book we are reading available to check out. This month’s book is Fortunately, the Milk written by Neil Gaiman. Our book club will meet the second and fourth Thursday of each month.
