Unbeaten Shepherd football squad rolls over West Chester

WEST CHESTER – Senior quarterback Tyson Bagent (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) completed 29-of-34 passes for 296 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another score to lead Top 10-ranked Shepherd (8-0, 5-0 PSAC East) to a 47-14 win over West Chester (4-4, 2-3 PSAC East) in PSAC East football action Saturday. 

West Chester took a 7-0 lead when Cooper Jordan teamed with D’Shaun Seals on a 15-yard scoring pass with 1:49 left in the first quarter. 

Shepherd tied the game when Bagent connected with junior wide receiver Marlon Cook (Forestville, Md./Potomac) on a 15-yard scoring pass with 12:32 remaining in the second quarter. Redshirt sophomore kicker Jacob Haynie (Fairfax, Va./Robinson) added the extra point. 

Redshirt freshman running back Blake Hartman (Inwood, W.Va./Musselman/Lehigh) scored on a nine-yard run with 7:48 left in the second quarter. 

Bagent found senior tight end Brian Walker (Clarksburg, Md/Clarksburg) alone in the end zone for an 18-yard scoring pass with 31 seconds left in the half to give the Rams a 20-7 lead at the break. 

Bagent fired a 46-yard scoring pass to junior running back Ronnie Brown (Baltimore/Dundalk) with 11:18 left in the third quarter. 

Ethan Kohler tossed a seven-yard scoring to Mari Wright for West Chester with 6:57 left in the third quarter to cut the lead to 27-14. 

Bagent scored on a one-yard sneak with 3:47 left in the third quarter to up the Shepherd lead to 34-14. 

Hartman raced 28 yards for a score with 13:05 left in the game to increase the Shepherd lead to 40-14. 

Brown dashed 16 yards for a score with 7:53 left to complete the scoring. 

Jordan completed 6-of-13 passes for 84 yards and a score and Kohler was 4-of-9 for 21 yards and a touchdown for the Golden Rams. Jordan also rushed for 73 yards on 11 carries. 

Brown had 16 carries for 98 yards to lead the Shepherd ground game. Hartman added four carries for 43 yards. 

Cook led the Shepherd receivers with eight catches for 74 yards and a score. Redshirt sophomore wide receiver Ryan Beach (Frederick, Md./Northwest) added six grabs for 51 yards, and Brown had three receptions for 54 yards and a score. Seals had six catches for 91 yards and a score for the Golden Rams. 

Shepherd had 514 yards of total offense while limiting West Chester to 211 yards. 

Junior linebacker Dewayne Grantham (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg/Lackawanna) recorded eight tackles (three solos) with a pair of sacks and junior safety Keyshawn Hailey (Fairmont, W.Va./Mt. St. Joseph {Md.}) added seven stops (five solos) to lead the Shepherd defense. Sterlen Barr posted 14 tackles (eight solos) for West Chester. 

The Rams return to action Saturday when they host Bloomsburg at noon for Senior Day/Military Appreciation Day.
