Okay. I’m talking about this one early, because you are going to want to be there and you need to mark your calendars.

Our 22nd annual Dog Walk and Contests will be held on October 29 at the Chambersburg Mall on Black Gap Road.

Every year the people who attend absolutely cannot believe the prizes that are available for participants who raise $75 or more. So get out there and get those sponsors now so you can get a chance at some amazing stuff.

The top donor will get the first choice and we call names on down the line.

Our dog walk coordinator, Robin, works throughout the year to get really incredible items for the prize area at center square in the mall. Believe me, you do not want to miss this.

The folks at the mall have allowed us to come back and we are so grateful. The mall just makes sense – it takes weather out of the equation and allows us to have prizes all set up for folks to peruse before the event.

I was shocked and really touched last year when we raised more than $10,000. I know Robin was almost beside herself. Please remember we also count Facebook fundraising in the numbers. So if you have a dog walk fundraiser on your Facebook page, just take a screen shot of what you raise and we will add it to your total. It’s a great way to help the shelter.

Registration will begin at 9 a.m. and the walk will kick off at 10. If the weather is good, we may walk around the mall outside. If not, we’ll be inside the mall.

Proceeds from our dog walk will go toward caring for the thousands of homeless animals who come through the doors of CVAS every year. The money raised will help the animals in our kennels right now and I know they are all grateful.

Folks who raise $25 or more will go home with a participation bag. People who bring in $75 or more will get a t-shirt and a walk down the prize table.

We’ll have our prize wheel going, too, for those who like to pretend they’re on a gameshow and take a spin.

Following the walk, we will hold our canine contests where we’re looking for the best kisser, best trick, best costume and most obedient. I always have a tough time finding judges for these contests because it’s so difficult to choose a winner. People come up with some amazing costumes and the tricks and abilities of the pooches amazes me every year!

There are even some great prizes for the winners in our contests, too. I’m telling you, Robin goes all out for this. You have to see it.

Each year we look to make our dog walk bigger and better than the last and you can help us do that. All the forms and information can be found online at cvas-pets.org or you can always give me a call at (717) 263-5791 with any questions.

Everyone who takes part in our dog walk is always really impressed. Trust me, you don’t want to miss it so make sure to mark your calendars and be at center court at the Chambersburg Mall on October 29!
