CHAMBERSBURG–The United Way’s annual school supply drive will get underway across Franklin County Tuesday, July 5.

The Stuff the Bus event provides much-needed school supplies to the five districts in Franklin County–Chambersburg, Greencastle-Antrim, Shippensburg, Tuscarora and Waynesboro.

Last year 24, local businesses and organizations participated by displaying school supply collection boxes. In total, county residents helped to provide over $20,000 worth of supplies to local students.

United Way officials hope that this year will be equally as successful thanks to sponsors Creative Minds Learning & Development Centers, Citi, and Park Avenue Pharmacy.

“The month of August is a challenging time for many already-overstretched families, as they are faced with the added expense and stress of preparing their kids for school. When students come to school under prepared, learning suffers,” said Amy Hicks, executive director, United Way of Franklin County.

“The Stuff the Bus event is a community-wide effort to make sure our youngest citizens return to their classrooms with everything they need to have a successful year,” said Kimberly Stephens, community impact coordinator for UWFC. “There are many ways to get involved and support local students through this event.”

Donation collection sites will operate from July 5-July 31, 2022, and the United Way team will be collecting donations at several summer events, such as the Path Valley Parade and the Waynesboro YMCA’s Y Cook Wednesdays Food Truck Series. Just look for big yellow school bus!

How to Get Involved: Look for Stuff the Bus donation boxes when you are out and about town. A list of businesses collecting donations can also be found on the United Way of Franklin County website.
