Shippensburg University pitcher wins All-Atlantic Region honors
SHIPPENSBURG — Shippensburg University pitcher Nick Zegna (Newark, Del./Newark (George Mason)) was recently named to the 2022 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-Atlantic Region Baseball Second Team.
Baseball annually has three All-Region teams. This is Zegna’s third All-Region classification of the postseason, as he was previously named to the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) Second Team and earned honorable mention from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
It is Zegna’s fourth postseason award overall, accompanying an All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Second Team classification.
Zegna set a school record this season with a league-best 102.1 innings pitched and ranked fourth in single-season school history with 103 strikeouts. He was among the PSAC’s Top 5 pitchers in both strikeouts and ERA (2.37).
A two-time PSAC Eastern Division Pitcher of the Week, Zegna threw six or more innings in 13 of his 15 starts, including eight starts of seven or more innings. He allowed two earned runs or less in 10 of his 15 starts, including five starts without allowing a run. Zegna struck out six or more batters in 10 of 15 starts, including a career-high 13 strikeouts in the PSAC Tournament against Slippery Rock.
Shippensburg U. represented by two runners at NCAA track meet
ALLENDALE, Mich. –Shippensburg University’s Drew Dailey (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) recently competed in the prelims of the 800-meter dash, representing the Raiders at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Grand Valley State University.
Dailey competed in the first of three preliminary heats and claimed fifth in his heat. His overall time of 1:51.03 resulted in a 17th-place finish.
The performance marked Dailey’s NCAA Outdoor Championships debut. He completes 2022 as the PSAC Champion in the event and having achieved a season best and school record of 1:48.67 in the event in April at the Bucknell Team Challenge.
Senior Aaron Arp Jr. (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin East) represented the Raiders in the 400-meter dash, but was unable to complete his preliminary heat due to injury.
Arp completed his SU career as the school record holder in the 400 meters, having run 46.81 seconds as a freshman in 2019. He was a two-time NCAA outdoor qualifier, having earned All-America honors in 2019 with an eighth-place finish. His 2022 season best of 47.03 seconds was achieved in winning the 2022 PSAC Championship.
