Editor’s note: This is the eighth in a series of articles on where to “shop local, shop small” in and around Waynesboro.

When you purchase a gift that also supports a local nonprofit, you give two gifts with one present.

If you want the gift-giving win-win, this is the weekend to check out the Christmas Shopping Auction, a benefit fundraiser for the Cumberland Valley Breast Care Alliance.

For 25 years, the CVBCA has provided support, education and information on breast cancer and preventive health care to women and men throughout Franklin County.

The CVBCA is a faith-based ministry whose mission is to provide assistance to women and men of any age, race, religion and socioeconomic level throughout the county.

Last year, the nonprofit provided help to 126 individuals who were newly diagnosed with breast cancer through care packages and support; $5,760 in financial aid to those who qualified; and provided free mammograms to 86 women through the MammaGift Project.

Fundraising is the key to being able to help patients in need, and the effects of the COVID-19 continue to hamper the activities of many groups and organizations and CVBCA is no exception.

One of CVBCA’s biggest fundraisers is their annual Fall Auction & Fashion Show, but for the second year in a row, the show can’t go on, so CVBCA has teamed up with a local auction to hold an online auction fundraiser.

“Our friends at Gateway Gallery Auction are making it possible for us to do an online Christmas Shopping Auction from Dec. 3-7,” explained Sharon Brosious, CVBCA executive director. “We are so excited.”

CVBCA has received donations of items such as jewelry, collectables, toys, gift baskets, holiday décor and more. All are up for auction—and the highest bidder will be the buyer. All proceeds will go to CVBCA.

“We’ve had some wonderful gift items donated,” Brosious said. “There really is something for everyone.”

To shop the online auction, visit www.GatewayAuction.com and click on “Upcoming Auctions” and “Benefit Auction CVBCA”. Participants can find photos and a description of the 25 items and place their bids.

The CVBCA Christmas Shopping Auction is open online now through Tuesday, Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. The successful bidders will be notified via email. All items must be paid for and picked up at the CVBCA office in Chambersburg.

“It’s been so difficult not being able to hold our in-person events,” Brosious said. “We hope you enjoy our online auction. On behalf of all the women we care for, we say thanks for your help. Together we can make a difference.”
