Christmas tree events scheduled

If “O Christmas Tree” is your favorite holiday tune, you’ll want to make a note of these upcoming events:

Waynesboro, Friday, Nov. 19, at 6:30 p.m.: The Waynesboro Christmas tree lighting ceremony will officially kick off the holiday season in downtown Waynesboro with live entertainment, food vendors, an appearance by Santa’s elves, horse-drawn sleigh rides and more. The illumination begins at 7 p.m. on the square.

Mont Alto, Friday, Dec. 3, at 6 p.m.: The Mont Alto Borough tree lighting ceremony will include carols by local churches and an open house at the Historical Society, 16. S. Main St., beginning at 3 p.m.   

Greencastle, Friday, Nov. 19, at 7 p.m.: The annual Heritage Christmas event will be held in the square of Greencastle.

The Third Annual Festival of Trees, Nov. 20-28: This event sponsored by Franklin County 11/30 Visitors Center is held at the center on the square in downtown Chambersburg. Trees are decorated by local groups, businesses and organizations. Visitors can vote for their favorite tree or wreath (four ballots for $1) as well as participate in the silent auction to take home a tree or wreath. Silent auction bids can be placed in person, via phone at 866-646-8060 or by emailing [email protected]. Silent auction amounts will be displayed in the Visitors Center and online. Current bid amounts will be updated online daily at explorefranklincountypa.com.  Final votes for favorites and final bids for the silent auction will close Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. Funds raised will support Cumberland Valley Breast Care Alliance. The event includes a holiday train display, courtesy of Cumberland Valley Model Railroad Club, in the lobby of the center.

Admission to Festival of Trees is free. Hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Closed Friday, Nov. 26). Weekend hours are Nov. 20 from 4 to 8 p.m.; Nov. 21 from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.; Nov. 27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and Nov. 28 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
