The youth wrestling postseason is underway and two area squads — Chambersburg and Waynesboro — will be dancing into the next round.
The Trojans and Tribe competed at the Central Pennsylvania Wrestling Association West Regional Championship at Biglerville last weekend, and the squads combined to qualify 33 athletes for this weekend’s CPWA Open Championship.
Chambersburg qualified 22 grapplers for the next round, including a trio of champions in Frankie Bryan (84), Xavier Rivera (131), and Gabe Creamer (116). Waynesboro will be sending 11 wrestlers to Open, including four champions in Griffin Alexander (201), Freedom Young (72), Noah Swope (60), and Issac Fann (63).
The CPWA West Novice Championship was also held last weekend, with the Trojans and Tribe crowning nine champions apiece.
Novice champions for Chambersburg included Colson Swartz (6U), Charlee Schlegel (6U), Emery Niswander (8U), Jaxon Kauffman (10U), Bellany Huntoon (10U), Tyler Bentley (10U), Teagan Eyer (10U), Camden Betz (12U), and Rylan Eyer (12U). Waynesboro champions included Ryder Gill (6U), Yasir Raleigh (6U), Amaree Knott (6U), Hudson Stoops (6U), Jaxin Baker (6U), Oliver Sanders (6U), Jaxson Wesoloski (10U), Brooklyn McChesney (10U), and Jaxon Rogers (12U).
Greencastle-Antrim, a former member of the CPWA, competed last weekend at the championships for its new league: The Tri State Youth Wrestling League. Three Blue Devils — Walker Reitz (6U Bantam), Jude Burns (8U Midget), and Elijah Pradhan (10U Junior) — all marched to titles.
