Waynesboro tops Northern York, West Perry

The Waynesboro Area Senior High School varsity boys’ basketball team continued its winning ways this week, as the Indians defeated West Perry, 68-18 on Monday and Northern York, 50-42 on Wednesday.

The pair of victories boosted Waynesboro’s season record to 5-1.

On Wednesday, the Tribe’s eight-point triumph was the first time this season that Waynesboro didn’t win by double digits. The Indians trailed 21-18 at halftime but rallied in the second half for the win.

Waynesboro outscored the Polar Bears 19-14 in the third quarter to take a 37-35 lead, the won the fourth period 13-7.

Ryan Shaffer tallied 14 points for the Indians, while Jaylon Bean finished with 12 points and Reese Cover had 11 points.

Cover had a team-best six rebounds. Shaffer had five boards and three steals.

On Monday, Waynesboro led 30-3 after the first quarter and coasted to the win.

Cover, Shaffer and Tanyon Shaull each scored 12 points. Bean added nine points, as 10 different players scored for the Tribe.

Shaull hauled down six rebounds, and Cover and Michael Young both had three steals.

Waynesboro will hope to notch another win or two next week as the Indians compete in the Lions Club Holiday Tournament hosted by Gettysburg High School on Dec. 27 and 28.
