GETTYSBURG – The Waynesboro Indians varsity boys’ basketball team has now lost two games this season, and both have come against Chambersburg.
The most recent clash between the two teams came Tuesday night in the championship game of the Lions Club Holiday tournament at Gettysburg High School. The Trojans, which defeated the Indians 70-54 in the title game of the Franklin County Tipoff Tournament earlier this month, staged a fourth-quarter rally en route to a 52-40 victory.
Waynesboro, which led 27-21 at halftime, was outscored 20-4 in the fourth quarter.
Jaylon Bean and Reese Cover scored 13 and 12 points, respectively, for the Indians (6-2).
On Monday, Waynesboro dominated host Gettysburg, 81-44, to advance to Tuesday’s championship game.
The score was tied at 10-10 after the first period, but the Tribe started to pull away in the second stanza, outscoring the Warriors 26-17 to forge a 36-27 lead at halftime.
Waynesboro won the third quarter 25-11 and outscored Gettysburg 20-6 in the fourth period.
Eleven different players scored for the Indians, who were led by Michael Young with 16 points. Cover had 13 points.
Bean and Ryan Shaffer each tallied nine points, while Louie Lindsay added seven points.
Waynesboro turned the ball over only nine times, compared to 23 by Gettysburg.
The Indians return to the court on Jan. 4 against Boiling Springs in a Mid-Penn Colonial Division game.
