Waynesboro rally falls short against Big Spring

NEWVILLE – The Waynesboro Indians varsity basketball team finished a stretch with three straight games on the road.

On Tuesday, the Tribe lost a 48-46 decision to Big Spring in a Mid-Penn Colonial Division game. Waynesboro nearly pulled off a comeback as it entered the fourth quarter with a double-digit deficit. The Indians outscored the Bulldogs 24-13 in the final quarter.

Eight players scored for Waynesboro, led by Alex Torbica with 11 points. Farin Parks had nine points, while Kellan Smith scored eight points.

Torbica and Grant Thompson each had seven rebounds.

Waynesboro returns to the court on Friday at home against James Buchanan. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.

Waynesboro 48, South Western 43

HANOVER – Waynesboro got the week started with a 48-43 non-conference victory against South Western on Monday.

It didn’t look that way as the Indians trailed 14-6 after the first quarter. They closed the gap to 23-22 at halftime and took the lead, 38-35 by the end of the third period and then held on for the win.

Most of the team’s points came from Alex Torbica and Farin Parks. Torbica led the way with 20 points. Parks finished with 16 points. Grant Thompson added nine points.

Torbica recorded a double-double as he also had 11 rebounds. Thompson grabbed nine rebounds and Parks had five boards.

Thompson and Eric Jacobs each had three assists.

Northern York 48, Waynesboro 30

DILLSBURG – Northern York outscored Waynesboro 11-0 in the first quarter and went on to a 48-30 victory Friday night in a Mid-Penn Colonial Division game.

The Indians were competitive the rest of the game but couldn’t make up ground en route to their fourth loss of the season. The loss dropped Waynesboro to 1-4, 1-1 in the division.

Farin Parks led Waynesboro in scoring with 10 points. Parks and Grant Thompson each had five rebounds.

Waynesboro is back in action Monday at South Western in a non-conference game.
