ELLIOTTSBURG – The Waynesboro Area Senior High School varsity boys’ basketball team forged a 34-24 halftime lead and never looked back on Friday, Jan. 16, as the Indians avenged an earlier season loss to the West Perry Mustangs, 62-51, in a Mid-Penn Colonial Division game.
Waynesboro led 17-12 after the first quarter and then duplicated that score in the second period to take a double-digit lead at halftime.
The Tribe is now 5-9, after starting the season 0-5. Next up for Waynesboro is a road game against Greencastle-Antrim on Monday in a divisional contest.
Four players scored in double digits for the winners. Rayshawn Frazer-Hewitt led the way with 16 points, including two three-point field goals. Carter Hough scored 12 points, followed by Nate Nystrom with 11 and Ryan Jenkins with 10.
The Indians finished the game with nine three-pointers, resulting in nearly half of the team’s points (27). Dominic Goodworth and Hough each had two threes. Jenkis, Nystrom and Danny Martin each had one.
Martin had three assists, while Frazer-Hewitt had six rebounds and Nystrom added five boards.
On Wednesday, Waynesboro fell to South Western by the score of 64-57. The Tribe held a 47-43 lead after the third quarter.
Dominic Goodworth knocked down four treys on his way to a team-high 18 points. Hough tallied 16 points, and Frazer-Hewitt had 12 points.
