Waynesboro Hospital Embraces Minimally Invasive Surgery with New Robotic Program

WAYNESBORO – Residents of Waynesboro no longer need to travel far to access the latest in surgical technology. WellSpan Waynesboro Hospital has officially launched its robotic surgery program, bringing minimally invasive procedures closer to home.

This exciting addition builds on WellSpan’s existing robotic surgery capabilities across other facilities, including Chambersburg. Now, local patients can benefit from a range of advantages offered by this cutting-edge technology:

  • Less Pain and Blood Loss: Smaller incisions, about the size of a dime, minimize trauma and blood loss compared to traditional surgery.
  • Shorter Hospital Stays and Quicker Recovery: Minimally invasive procedures often translate to faster healing and shorter hospitalizations.
  • Reduced Risk of Complications: Robotic surgery’s precision and control can lead to fewer complications and a smoother recovery process.
  • Improved Patient Satisfaction: Smaller scars and a more comfortable experience contribute to higher overall satisfaction among patients who undergo robotic surgery.

The da Vinci® robotic surgery system is at the heart of the program. It allows surgeons to operate with enhanced dexterity and control thanks to its high-definition 3D vision and robotic instruments.

“We are thrilled to bring robotic surgery to Waynesboro and offer our community access to these transformative procedures,” said Melissa Dubrow, vice president of WellSpan Health and president of WellSpan Waynesboro Hospital.

The program encompasses various surgical specialties, including:

  • Hernia repairs
  • Gallbladder surgery
  • Gynecological surgeries
  • Thoracic surgery
  • Urologic surgery
  • Bariatric surgery
  • Colorectal surgery
  • General surgery

Residents of Waynesboro and surrounding areas can now consult their physicians to determine if robotic surgery is an option for their specific needs. This innovative technology marks a significant step forward in providing advanced medical care close to home, enhancing the quality of life for the Waynesboro community.
