WAYNESBORO — The Waynesboro Indians varsity basketball team tepped into Mid-Penn Commonwealth Division competition last week, hosting Carlisle and Chambersburg in back-to-back matchups to close the 2026 season.
Coming off a narrow 63-61 loss to Middletown on Feb. 4, Waynesboro dropped a 62-45 decision to Carlisle on Friday, Feb. 6. The Indians then fell to Chambersburg, 74-47, on Monday, Feb. 9.
Chambersburg 74, Waynesboro 47
Chambersburg controlled the game from the opening tip, building a 24-6 lead after the first quarter and extending the advantage to 42-11 by halftime.
Waynesboro struggled offensively, shooting 27 percent from the field (8-for-30). The Indians were more efficient from three-point range, hitting 7 of 17 attempts (41 percent).
Three players led the scoring effort with nine points each: Rayshawn Frazer-Hewitt, Dominic Goodworth and Carter Hough. Goodworth and Jayden Tyler each connected on two three-pointers.
Nate Nystrom paced the Indians on the glass with seven rebounds, while Goodworth added six defensive boards.
Carlisle 62, Waynesboro 45
Waynesboro and Carlisle were tied at 14 after the first quarter before the Thundering Herd used a 15-6 second-quarter run to take a 29-20 halftime lead.
The Indians trimmed the deficit in the third quarter, outscoring Carlisle 18-15, but the Herd responded with an 18-7 advantage in the fourth to secure the win.
Frazer-Hewitt finished with a game-high 19 points, including three three-pointers. Nystrom added nine points and seven rebounds.
Season recap
Waynesboro entered its Mid-Penn Colonial Division matchup against Middletown riding momentum, having won three straight and four of its previous five games.
The Indians closed the 2026 season with an overall record of 8-14.
