SHIPPENSBURG – The Waynesboro Area Senior High School varsity wrestling team won six of 13 contested bouts against Shippensburg, but all of the Greyhounds’ victories were pins, which helped the home team defeat Waynesboro, 42-31, on Thursday, Jan. 15 in a Mid-Penn Colonial Division matchup.
The contest began at 215 pounds, with Waynesboro’s Anthony Ausherman (24-4) winning by forfeit.
Shippensburg won the next six matches by fall to take a 36-6 lead before Waynesboro’s Steven Howard (22-4) won by major decision, 12-2, in the 139-pound match. Teammate Colton Biser followed with a pin in 1:12 at 145 pounds.
Shippensburg won the next bout by pin at 152 pounds.
The Indians claimed the final three contests, as Ayden Strausbaugh won by forfeit in the 160-pound match, Brady Myers (15-10) won by fall in 1:21 at 172 pounds, and Tyler Rooney (14-7) wrapped things up with an 8-2 decision at 189 pounds.
Waynesboro’s next opponent is Gettysburg, which will host the Indians on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m.
Waynesboro’s final home match is Jan. 29 against Greencastle-Antrim.
