Waynesboro boys’ hoops team tips off 2025-26 season

WAYNESBORO – The 2025-26 high school basketball season tips off Wednesday when the Waynesboro Indians travel to Adams County to play former Blue Mountain League opponent New Oxford.

The Tribe’s home opener will be Friday against Penn Manor, with the Mid-Penn Colonial Division portion of the campaign starting next Wednesday at Northern.

“I’m looking forward to an exciting year with a great group of young men to work with,” exclaimed Waynesboro head coach Tom Hoffman, who begins his 26th season in that position. “We have a very challenging schedule with some very good non-division opponents mixed in with a tough and very wide open Colonial Division slate.

“We always appreciate the support and look forward to representing the Waynesboro community with class and an exciting brand of basketball.”

The “brand” of hoops is always a thing that Hoffman not only works on in practice but also wonders how it will materialize because it reflects the type of roster the team has.

This season, the Indians appear short on rebounding, meaning Hoffman is counting on some hot shooting.

“Rebounding could be an issue,” he said. “That means we could live by the three and die by the three.”

Waynesboro returns three starters – Rayshawn Frazer-Hewitt (guard), Carter Hough (guard) and Nate Nystrom (guard/forward). Five other players – Riley Eaton, Dom Goodrich, Ryan Jenkins, Christian Munday and Mick Torbica – all logged varsity playing time.

“We have an ability to play fast,” said Hoffman, something the Indians have used not only to be competitive but to dominate opponents. “Shooting could be a strength, and defense has been solid in scrimmages.”

Waynesboro is coming off a 13-8 season, including an 11-3 record in the Colonial Division.
