Washington County Athletic Association releases baseball All-Stars, Smithsburg named Team of the Year

Smithsburg was a force to be reckoned with on the baseball field this spring — and following a 15-win campaign that saw the Leopards repeat as region champs and advance to the state quarterfinals — the Leopards have been recognized for their achievements.

The Washington County Athletic Association released its baseball All-Stars, and the selections were kind to Smithsburg. The Leopards were named the WCAA’s Public School Team of the Year, while Smithsburg skipper Patrick Moore was picked as Coach of the Year. Luke Scott was named Newcomer of the Year, while three other Leopards were named to the WCAA First Team: Jaxon Teson (OF), Mason Oates (1B), and Heath Githens (RHP). Seven other Smithsburg players landed selections on the Second Team, Third Team and Honorable Mention squads.

South Hagerstown was highlighted by the First Team selections of Shawn Higgins (RHP) and Braydon Ocasio (OF/RHP), both of whom earned major honors. Higgins was named the WCAA’s Pitcher of the Year, while Ocasio was tabbed as the Sophomore of the Year. Six other Rebels were named to the lower teams.

Finally, North Hagerstown saw three players earn First Team honors: James Ortiz (SS), Eli Brown (2B), and Matt Mallardi (CF). Brown and Mallardi also earned Golden Gloves, while four other Hubs were placed on the Second and Third Teams.

Below is a complete look at the WCAA Baseball All-Stars:
