The Smithsburg girls wrestling team were just right in their first taste of action.
The Leopards went 2-2 in their four matches at the Maverick Duals at Manchester Valley on Saturday, with three of the Leopards going undefeated for the tournament.
Riliegh Romberger, Emmie Mentzer and Kendall Crutchfield all scored 4-0 records for the tournament, while Samantha Nieman, Macy Orr and Lilliannah Mentzer checked in at 3-1 each.
Smithsburg wrestled at a disadvantage, forfeiting four weight classes in every match.
The Leopards defeated Thomas Johnson and were awarded a win over Eastern Tech by criteria to break a tie. The lost to host Manchester Valley and tournament champion LaPlata.
BOYS BASKETBALL
South Hagerstown 55, Francis Scott Key 47
DJ Wade, Jr. scored a team-high 15, while Purcell Clay III added 11 points and a team-high 12 rebounds on Friday to lead South Hagerstown to a season-opening victory over Francis Scott Key.
Luke Leisinger chipped in with an all-around effort of nine points, six rebounds, four steals, three assists and two blocks for the Rebels (1-0).
