DILLSBURG – Shippensburg spoiled Northern’s home-course advantage at Range End Golf Club on Friday, August 22 – barely.
It came down to a tiebreaker as both teams finished with identical scores of 303, but the outcome came down to the fifth scorer. Shippensburg edged Northern by one stroke as Thomas Bennett carded an 83, while Northern’s Trent Bankert finished with 84.
Shippensburg’s Kaydee Beckenbaugh and Ben Horgos each shot 72, while teammate Kaden Ramsey finished with 76.
Northern’s top four scorers all shot in the 70s. After White, it was Garrett Mainhart with 76, and Kooper Cunningham and Kyle Miller with 78.
Waynesboro slipped back to fifth place after placing third at home on Monday. Coach Ryan Henderson’s foursome with a score of 333. However, Caiden Shacreaw dipped under 80 with a 79. Rylan Nichols was next with 81.
“We’re not doing very well this year,” noted Henderson. “We just don’t have the matching talent with Tyler (Fortney) being gone. His even-par scores are greatly missed.
“Individually, I do like what I’m seeing with Caiden, Landon, and Rylan. Those three have been fairly consistent with their performances. I’m very thankful to get that trio back next year.”
Waynesboro couldn’t keep pace with all those 70s from Shippensburg, Northern, and James Buchanan, who are setting the standard in the Mid-Penn Colonial Division after the third league meet of the season. Northern had four golfers finishing in the 70s, followed by three for Shippensburg and two for James Buchanan.
The fourth installment of the division schedule will be at Great Cove Golf Course in McConnellsburg on August 26. Tee off is 1 p.m., and the match will be hosted by James Buchanan.
