GETTYSBURG – From the start of the 2025 Mid-Penn Colonial Division varsity golf season, it was known that Northern York would be, or strongly could have been, the favorite to repeat as league champion.
But along came Shippensburg. On Thursday, Sept. 11, the Greyhounds outlasted the Polar Bears, 311-314, to win the final regular season match at Gettysburg National and in so doing, won the division crown.
Shippensburg took over possession of first place last Friday and managed to hold on for the final two matches. On Tuesday, Sept. 9, the Greyhounds defeated the Polar Bears, 323-334. That left Thursday’s finale as the final hurdle for Shippensburg who was led by Ben Horgos (71).
Gettysburg’s Landon Blocher was the top finisher with 69.
Gettysburg finished third, while James Buchanan was fourth. Waynesboro was fifth.
”We finished up our regular season,” said Waynesboro Coach Ryan Henderson. “Caiden (Shacreaw) continues to play pretty well and lead the team. His 78 was good enough for a T5 finish. Landon Crable and Rylan Nichols are in the hunt for making a post-season appearance. Landon shot 86 and Rylan shot 87. Abby Byers continues to improve as well. Her 88 will solidify her spot in the mid Penn championships on Sept. 25.”
Waynesboro, which finished with a 15-27 record (fifth place), placed fourth on Tuesday with 337.
“Landon played so much better,” noted Henderson. “I”m very proud of his comeback after last week. Caiden also played well. It was nice to have Abby for the match. Her score counted to round out our top four. Finishing fourth in the middle of the pack is a lot better than last week.”
Crable was Waynesboro’s top scorer on Tuesday at Chambersburg Country Club and was second overall with 77. Shacreaw finished at 85, followed by Nichols with 87 and Byers with 88.
