CHAMBERSBURG – More than 400 runners and walkers laced up their shoes and braved the winter chill for the Run Your Ice Off 5K, marking the final activity of the 2025 IceFest Pennsylvania celebration.
The annual race, which began as a small fun run in 2015 as part of a Leadership Franklin County Community project, has grown into a highly anticipated tradition. This year, 438 runners registered for the Feb. 2 event. The course led runners on a winding route through downtown Chambersburg and onto the scenic rail trail, with the support of over 55 volunteers.
Hosted by the LFC Alumni, the event benefits several community organizations. Proceeds from the 2025 race will support the Downtown Business Council, Council of the Arts and Downtown Chambersburg Inc., as well as the LFC Alumni Scholarship Fund. Additionally, funds will benefit Healthy Community Partnerships of Franklin County’s “Go Girls Go” program and the Chambersburg Road Runners Club’s Ausherman Summer Series program, which promote fitness and wellness among local youth.
“Run Your Ice Off has become a great way to finish IceFest and bring the community together for a fun, active event,” said Virginia Harriger, executive director of the Greater Chambersburg Chamber Foundation. “We’re thrilled to see so many participants and volunteers supporting not just a race, but a cause that directly benefits our local organizations.”
Run Your Ice Off 5K continues to grow each year, encouraging the community to shake off the winter blues while making a lasting impact in Franklin County.
