Reed pockets 5th win at Hagerstown Speedway, but faces suspension

Photo courtesy of Hagerstown Speedway Hagerstown driver Keith Reed celebrates from Victory Lane after winning the Pure Stocks feature at Hagerstown Speedway on Saturday.

For Keith Reed, it was a roller coaster of a Saturday night at Hagerstown Speedway that only got wilder when the work week kicked in on Monday.

On the track Hagerstown’s Reed, a driver in the Pure Stocks division, had a tough start to his day. After posting the slowest time in hot laps, Reed was disqualified from his heat race as a result of aggressive driving. The DQ pushed Reed to the tail end of the 14-car field to start the feature.

That’s when his luck seemed to turn around.

Against all odds Reed blasted forward 13 spots over the course of the 15-lapper to not only win the Hard Charger Award, but also the feature itself. Reed finished on top of the podium above Nathaniel Younker and Sam Hoffman, with his son Blake taking fourth place.

It was a rough-and-tumble evening at the office, but Reed was able to enjoy the win — his fifth of the season — if only for a few nights.

On Monday Hagerstown Speedway announced via its Facebook page that Reed had been issued a one-week suspension, effective immediately, due to “extremely aggressive driving.” The track’s website still lists Reed as the winner of the race, and it does not appear he’s been docked in the points race, where he is currently tied for second place with Younker. Reed has competed in eight features at Hagerstown this season and has landed Top 5 finishes in all eight races.

Also at Hagerstown Speedway Brian Booze, the points leader in the Late Model Sportsman division, maintained his top spot with a fifth-place finish on Saturday. Booze was chased by Hagerstown’s Wesley Bonebrake (6th) and fellow Greencastle driver Brandon Bard (10th). The FWD 4 Cylinder feature included Top 10 finishes from Waynesboro’s Eric Moats (6th) and Chambersburg’s Malachi Doyle (10th), while Hagerstown’s Graham Brezler posted an eighth-place finish in the Crown Vic feature.

At Path Valley Speedway, the Limited Late Models feature saw four drivers from the Local.News1 coverage area land in the Top 10: St. Thomas’ Mike Walls (2nd) and Gunner Walls (10th), and Chambersburg’s Steve Lowery (5th) and Randy Burkholder (7th). Kameron Morral, of Hagerstown, finished fourth in the 600 Sprints.

Earlier in the week, at McGrewBid Motoplex on Tuesday, Greencastle’s Todd Walls raced to a runner-up finish in the PA Micro Midgets 500cc feature. Wesley Walls, of St. Thomas, finished in seventh.

BAPS Motor Speedway and Williams Grove Speedway both had programs rained out last weekend.

Below is a track-by-track, feature-by-feature look at races from last week that included drivers from the Local.News1 coverage area:
