QUINCY – It was the season that almost wasn’t.
But along came the Mountain Valley Youth Football League. The rest is history – new history.
During the off-season, Quincy’s former league (Keystone Youth Football and Cheer League) ceased operations. That left Quincy without a league.
Brian Shockey, a member of the Quincy Panthers board of directors, said he inquired about the possibility of joining the Capital Football Association Youth Football League, the same league the Waynesboro Stallions is affiliated with.
“But they said they wouldn’t accept us because of the Waynesboro Stallions,” Shockey said.
Shockey said he also talked with members of the Mountain Valley league, and “they had to get their board together to see if we would be accepted into the league,” Shockey said. “All the people I’ve talked to have been welcoming and friendly. They are a ‘by-the-book’ type of league. They have a lot of stuff going to get more kids involved.”
Chad Williams is the head coach of the varsity team.
“We are still accepting registrations; we’re still taking kids on,” Shockey said.
Quincy, the only team outside of Maryland (and West Virginia) In the Mountain Valley Youth Football League, will play in the Mountain Division.
