Mr. Charles Edward “Charlie” Cunningham Sr., 79, of Maugansville, Md., died Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at his residence.
He was the husband of Shirley Lee Pryor Cunningham, his wife of 61 years.
Born Oct. 13, 1937, in Maugansville, he was a son of the late Charles Luther and Helen Virginia Lowery Cunningham. He graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1955.
Mr. Cunningham was the owner and operator of C. E. Cunningham Plumbing & Heating for 35 years. Prior to that, he worked with Fridinger & Ritchie Co. Inc. for 17 1/2 years. He was a master plumber.
He was a member of Long Meadow Church of the Brethren for 25 years.
Charlie had been a member of the Maugansville Ruritan Club for 47 years, where he served as president.
Additionally, he was involved in numerous community activities until his death. He was a member of the Washington County Plumbing Association, serving as president for five years; the Train Collectors Association for 50 years; and the Antietam Fire Co.
Surviving are his children, Lorraine Diane Cunningham Brooks, and Charles Edward Cunningham Jr. and wife, Mary; his grandchildren, Brandi Nicole Johnson, Cole Jared and Christian Jacob Cunningham, and Sebastian Leon Brooks; and siblings, Patricia Ann Cunningham Carnes, Brenda Sue Cunningham Kaiser and husband, Greg, and Greg Lynn Cunningham and wife, Candy; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by a younger brother, Larry Nevin Cunningham.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 30, 2017, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown. The funeral service will be Saturday, July 1, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. His pastor, the Rev. Paul N. Leatherman III, will officiate. Interment will follow in Resthaven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
