Taking care of a child is no easy task, especially in the first year. Just ask any parent.
Friends, hobbies, work, and even sleep take a backseat to the priority of raising a small human. Cory Myers is learning all of these lessons firsthand.
But the Fayetteville driver has found a way to maintain his passion for racing sprint cars: Bringing his kid to the race track.
With his eight-month-old son Reese serving as the “Crew Chief,” Myers surged to victory in the 270 Sprints feature at Path Valley last weekend. Competing in a race packed with local talent, Myers claimed the top spot over Fort Loudon’s Zach Glass (2nd) and Greencastle’s Bradyn Kuhn (3rd) and Aidan Crouse (4th).
Kameron Morral, of Hagerstown, conquered the 600 Sprints at Path Valley, while three area drivers landed Top 10 finishes in the Limited Late Models: St. Thomas’ Gunner Walls (3rd) and Mike Walls (7th), and Greencastle’s DJ Myers (9th).
Also at Path Valley, Chambersburg’s Kevin Bard finished sixth in the Thunder Cars, while DJ Myers secured a 10th-place finish in the Super Late Models.
Hagerstown Speedway hosted its “78th Season Special” last weekend, and Brian Booze celebrated by winning the Late Model Sportsman feature. Booze defeated fellow Greencastle drivers Scott Palmer (5th), Cody Kershner (8th), and Brandon Bard (10th), as well as Hagerstown’s Wesley Bonebrake (7th).
The Pure Stocks feature at Hagerstown saw three area drivers finish in the Top 10: Hagerstown’s Keith Reed (3rd) and Blake Reed (7th), and Greencastle’s Dave Friedrich (8th). Isaiah Miller, of Greencastle, took fifth in the Semi Late Models, while top finishers in the Crate Late Models feature included Greencastle’s Cuyler Upperman (6th), Waynesboro’s Tyler Horst (7th), and Hagerstown’s Avery McMellen (9th).
And finally, the ageless Lance Dewease turned in a good showing in the 410 Sprints at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday. The National Sprint Car Hall of Famer drove to a runner-up finish.
