Olivia Kearns is one of the most dangerous wrestlers in the state. The Mid-Penn Conference made this perfectly clear when it named Olivia Kearns — a Shalom Christian athlete who wrestles in a co-op for Shippensburg — as its Girls Wrestler of the Year.
Kearns, just a sophomore, is already a two-time section and region champion. Sporting a 25-1 record with 20 falls, she will be aiming for her second state medal this weekend when she ventures to Hershey’s Giant Center for the PIAA Championships.
Kearns headlines the Mid-Penn’s First Team, and is joined on the squad by Chambersburg’s Reagan Evans and Aulana Stanton, two state qualifiers who have combined for 70 wins so far this season. Other girls landing All-Star nods include Chambersburg’s Piper Jones (2nd Team), Jessica Li (4th), and Hadyn Fritz (4th), Waynesboro’s Rylei Young (4th) and Annabelle Tracey (4th), and Greencastle-Antrim’s Aniuta Pavlii.
On the boys side of the wrestling mat, Chambersburg’s Frank Barrientos was named to the Commonwealth Division’s First Team after going 25-8 with 20 falls. He was joined on the Commonwealth squad by teammates Jaccob Stoner (2nd), Isaac Brambley (3rd), and Deakon Snavely (3rd).
Waynesboro’s wrestling program saw two grapplers get named to the Colonial Division’s First Team: Steven Howard (32-6, 6 falls) and Anthony Ausherman (29-7, 16 falls). Three other Tribe wrestlers were named All-Stars, including Tyler Rooney (2nd), Wyatt Lowans (3rd), and Brady Myers (3rd). Greencastle earned the division’s Sportsmanship Award and was represented on the All-Star team by Silas Robertson (2nd), Landon Hinkle (2nd), Damien Johns (2nd), Jackson Polifka (3rd), Aidan Crouse (3rd), and Ben Jansen (3rd).
Todd Stephens, who guided Greencastle’s boys basketball team to a Colonial Division championship, was named as the division’s Coach of the Year. Two Blue Devils — Alex Albright (14.9 ppg) and Dez Holman (10.2 ppg) — were named Colonial First Teamers, while teammates Cooper Green (3rd) and Ryan Schick (3rd) also earned All-Star selections. Waynesboro’s Rayshawn Frazier Hewitt (1st) and Carter Hough (2nd) were also picked for the Colonial All-Star team.
Chambersburg standout Colton Cornwell, who is scoring 15.9 points per night this season, was named to the Commonwealth Division’s First Team. Teammates Landon Buhrman and Grayson Kegerreis each garnered Third Team selections.
Waynesboro’s Breanna McIlquham was our area’s lone First Team selection on the girls hardwood. She earned the honor in the Colonial Division, with teammate Braelyn Pearson-Moore landing on the Second Team. Three Greencastle players — Kiersten Swain (2nd), Sophie Fries (2nd), and Callie Izer (3rd) — were named Colonial All-Stars, while Chambersburg’s Maddie Mills was a Third Team pick in the Commonwealth.
