Waynesboro siblings Ace and Aven Beltz shared a lofty goal for the youth wrestling postseason: Nail down medals at both of Pennsylvania’s state tournaments.
After taking care of the first phase of their goal at the Keystone State Championships a few weeks ago, the bruising Beltz’ went back to work again at last weekend’s Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling (PJW) Youth State Championships, held at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg.
Once again, both sister and brother came up big.
Aven Beltz, wrestling in the girls 8U division, took third at 45 pounds, while older brother and 10U competitor Ace posted a fifth-place finish at 65. The siblings highlighted a small group of state placewinners that included Greencastle-Antrim’s Harper Duffey (7th, girls 12U), Chambersburg’s Samuel Stoner (7th, boys 10U), and Waynesboro’s Emma Swope (7th, girls 12U).
Three Chambersburg grapplers — Brechtlee Holmquist, Frankie Bryan, and Nolan Lobb — posted winning records at PJWs, as did Waynesboro’s Noah Swope and Greencastle’s Liam Dietrich.
Elsewhere on the club wrestling scene, two wrestlers from the Local.News1 coverage area returned home as All-Americans after competing at last weekend’s National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) High School Nationals: Fairfield’s Caleb Tyler and Smithsburg’s Rileigh Romberger.
Tyler, a heavyweight representing Pennsylvania, competed in the 11th-grade division and grinded out five wins to earn a spot in the national title bout, where he lost by injury default in 4:44 to Missouri’s Zyan Knollmeyer. Romberger represented Maryland with a sixth-place finish at 120 pounds in the girls division.
Two other area wrestlers, Greencastle’s Jackson Polifka and South Hagerstown’s Logan Ardinger, posted winning records at NHSCA Nationals.
