MERCERSBURG – Ben Foster remained undefeated through eight matches to lead Smithsburg to a 39-30 win over James Buchnan, giving the Leopards their first regular-season dual meet victory in two seasons.
Logan Crutchfield started Smithsburg off on the positive note with a dominating win, featuring devastating double-leg blast takedown, while Rileigh Romberger came away with a hard-earned victory in Coed match.
Jonathan Dempsher, a freshman who was elevated from JVs to fill an opening in the Smithburg lineup, had a breakout match by scoring a decision in a tight, back-and-forth match for important points.
BOYS BASKETBALL
North Hagerstown 65, Tuscarora 58
FREDERICK, Md. – Joey Dorsey and Brayden Cespedes combined for 50 points as North Hagerstown rallied in the fourth quarter to remain undefeated in a win over Tuscarora.
The Hubs trailed 42-40 heading into the fourth quarter before outscoring the Titans 25-16 in the final eight minutes to pull out the victory.
Dorsey finished with 26 points with nine rebounds, while Cespedes added 24 with 10 rebounds. The pair accounted for 77% of the Hubs’ offense.
The game featured eight ties and seven lead changes.
North led 17-12 after the first quarter, but fell behind 31-29 at the half. The Hubs were only 17 of 34 from the foul line.
Tristan Redick managed just two points, but made his mark defensively with five steals.
Frederick 57, South Hagerstown 42
Three players tied for team top-scoring honors for the Rebels, but they couldn’t hold off the Cadets.
DJ Wade Jr., Luke Leisinger and Naz Mitchell each scored 11 points to pace South Hagerstown. Avery Cosley pulled down 11 rebounds to go with four points for the Rebels.
