Pennsylvania seniors will continue to have access to affordable prescription drug coverage under a new state law extending protections through 2027.
Act 49 of 2025, recently signed into law, continues the moratorium on Social Security cost-of-living adjustment increases for participants in the state’s PACE and PACENET programs. Without the extension, officials said, more than 22,000 older Pennsylvanians could have lost eligibility for the programs due to modest increases in Social Security income.
The PACE and PACENET programs provide prescription assistance to more than 250,000 Pennsylvanians age 65 and older. Both programs help eligible seniors afford necessary medications by limiting out-of-pocket costs.
State lawmakers emphasized the importance of maintaining these benefits, noting that stability in drug coverage is essential for seniors who rely on daily medications to manage chronic health conditions. The extended moratorium will remain in effect through Dec. 31, 2027.
