Mirra Harbaugh was a girl on a mission at last weekend’s Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling (PJW) Junior High State Championships, held in Johnstown.
Competing in the 164-pound bracket, Chambersburg’s Harbaugh battled against the best wrestlers the state had to offer and pinned her way to the championship match. She was eventually stopped in the final, but Harbaugh’s spot on the podium was already sealed.
While Harbaugh was the only local wrestler to land on the awards stand, five others won at least two matches against state-caliber competition: Waynesboro’s Eli Hind, Fairfield’s John Packard, and Greencastle-Antrim’s Kolston Piper, Ethan Allen, and Tucker Mongan.
Club wrestlers kept their skills sharp last weekend by competing at tournaments hosted at Mifflin County, Kennard-Dale, and Hamburg.
The Chip Aumiller Tournament at Mifflin County saw Waynesboro’s Byron Mummert capture the Novice 8U title at 58-60, and Greencastle’s Walker Reitz take second at Novice 6U 38-41. The SAA/Kennard-Dale Tourney featured three area champs: Fairfield’s Storm Smith (6U) and Colton Weishaar (15U), and Waynesboro’s Ace Beltz (10U).
Finally, the Hamburg Tournament saw Waynesboro’s Hollimon brothers — Brixton and Keyzlin — each land Top 2 finishes. Brixton won the 70-75A bracket in 12U, while Keyzlin was the 10U runner-up at 73-78.
