It’s summer! It’s American Legion baseball season

WAYNESBORO – As a general rule, those who play either junior varsity or varsity baseball for the Waynesboro Area Senior High School teams also hop on over to the Waynesboro American Legion Post 15 baseball team in late May.

There’s about a two or three-week hiatus before players trade the Blue and Gold for the Black and Red of Post 15.

Waynesboro fielded both senior and junior teams.

So far this season, the senior team has started out 2-0, winning the first two games last week.

On Monday, Waynesboro defeated Chambersburg at home, 5-4, and on Wednesday, Post 15 topped Shippensburg, 7-5, on the road.

This is Dan McCleaf’s seventh season as coach of the team.

“We had a bit of a turnover from last year’s team with 11 players joining the senior group for their first year,” said McCleaf. “Brett Powell, Ethan Hotchkiss and John Kahl provide leadership as they enter their third season with us. Kahl, Bryan Alford and Gunner Shifflett will lead the pitching staff with newcomers Brayden Zeigler and Logan Kennedy getting innings as well.”
