HS football roundup: JoJo Davis scores five TDs, guides South Hagerstown to first win of season

South Hagerstown’s football squad earned its first win of the season on Friday, and the Rebels have one man in particular to thank: JoJo Davis.

Davis, a 5-foot-8, 185-pound running back, accounted for five TDs to lead South to a 34-17 victory over Thomas Johnson. With the win, the Rebels (1-3) snapped a 12-game losing streak that dates back to last season.

South Hagerstown led 14-3 at halftime on the strength of a pair of TD runs from Davis. Thomas Johnson (1-3) scored a TD to cut into the lead, but countered right back with a 41-yard scoring run from Davis. He found the end zone again, this time on a 43-yard TD reception, to make the score 27-10.

Davis closed out South Hagerstown’s scoring in the fourth quarter with his fifth TD: A 41-yard scamper.

The Rebels return to the field on Friday, when they travel to take on Catoctin (1-3), a team coming off a 56-7 loss to Boonsboro.

North Hagerstown 18, Central Woodstock 7

North Hagerstown’s undefeated season continued with a hard-earned win over Central Woodstock (Va.) on Friday.

The Hubs (4-0) were led by the efforts of running backs Ty Fauntleroy and Michael Stewart. Fauntleroy rushed 23 times for 101 yards and a TD, while Stewart added 75 yards on 10 carries and returned a punt 55 yards for a score.

Stewart also registered an interception for the North defense, which got strong performances from Damean Thomas (fumble recovery, 3 tackles for loss), Bryant Noubissie (fumble recovery, 2 tackles for loss), Marky McCall (fumble recovery), Blake Custer (2 tackles for loss), Ben Distefano (tackle for loss).

Hubs kicker Darius Geaman hit a 36-yard field goal.

That was all the scoring Chambersburg (2-4, 1-4) could manage, even though it totaled 275 yards of total offense.
