HS Football Roundup: Chambersburg back in the win column with shutout over Carlisle

The Chambersburg football team has broken out of a four-game losing streak, and the Trojans have their defense to thank.

Chambersburg’s defense came up big on Homecoming at Trojan Stadium, limiting visiting Carlisle to 82 yards of total offense in a 6-0 win over the Herd in Friday night’s Mid-Penn Commonwealth Division contest.

The Trojans (3-4, 2-4) held Carlisle to just 21 rushing yards, while restricting Herd QB Carter Wilson to 61 passing yards. Chambersburg hounded Carlisle (0-7, 0-6) in the backfield and got sacks from Mason Mowen (2), Colton Horst, Enoch Keath, and Ray Williams.

The Trojans managed just six points, despite totaling 226 yards of offense. Chambersburg scored the game’s decisive TD in the second quarter, when QB Cam Green found Malachi Tasker for a 20-yard scoring strike.

Green completed 18 of 28 passes for 153 yards. His favorite targets were Cobe Penick (8 catches, 59 yards), Isaiah Tasker (2-27), Davonte Scott (2-22), Malachi Tasker (3-20), and Cooper Stockslager (1-18). The Trojans were led on the ground by Malachi Tasker (18-52) and Green (8-21).

Chambersburg returns to the field on Friday, when it travels to take on Altoona (2-5, 2-4), a team coming off a 45-7 loss to Harrisburg.

Greencastle-Antrim 41, Milton Hershey 21

The Blue Devils got their running game going and halted a three-game losing streak in Friday’s win over Mid-Penn Colonial Division opponent Milton Hershey.

Greencastle-Antrim (2-5, 2-4) amassed a 21-7 lead in the first quarter, with the Blue Devils scoring on runs from Blake Reuter and Lars Galinanes, as well as a 65-yard TD strike from Gavin Logsdon to Wyatt Hull.

Milton Hershey (1-6, 0-5) scored on a passing TD in the second quarter to make the game interesting, but Greencastle scored three of the game’s final four TDs to cruise to victory. Two of those TDs were provided by Galinanes, while Reuter punched in the other score.

The Blue Devils travel on Friday to take on Juniata (5-2) a divisional crossover game. The Indians are coming off a 49-14 victory over Newport.

Mifflin County 17, Waynesboro 6

Mifflin County pulled away from Waynesboro late to secure its second-straight victory.

Following a scoreless first half, the Huskies (2-5, 1-5 Keystone) posted the game’s first TD in the third quarter on a long TD pass from Chase Hartung. Waynesboro (2-5, 1-5) later countered with a 12-yard TD pass from Rayshawn Frazier-Hewitt to Christian Munday, but that was all the scoring the Tribe could manage. Mifflin County put the game away with a six-yard TD run from Gavin Uriah.

Waynesboro welcomes Mechanicsburg on Friday. The Wildcats (6-1, 5-1) are coming off a 35-7 win over Northern York.

Century 19, North Hagerstown 14

Century overcame a 14-0 deficit to hand North Hagerstown its first loss of the season.

The Hubs (4-1) took control early on a five-yard TD run from Colt Butts and a 23-yard scoring scamper from Ty Fauntleroy, but the Knights (3-2) didn’t fold.

Century scored just before halftime and again early in the fourth quarter to cut North Hagerstown’s deficit to one point, 14-13. The Knights then scored the game’s decisive TD with 6:28 remaining to play.

Fauntleroy finished with 20 carries for 125 yards, while Butts completed 7 of 14 passes for 73 yards. Tai Gilliam led Hubs receivers with three catches for 46 yards.

Defensively, North Hagerstown was highlighted by the efforts of Damean Thomas, who totaled 15 tackles, including two tackles for loss. James Jackson logged an interception, Ronnie Savage III recovered a pair of fumbles, and Bryant Noubissie posted 12 tackles, including a sack.

The Hubs return to the field on Friday when they host Williamsport (4-1), a team coming off a 41-27 loss to Boonsboro.
