HS Football Roundup: Blue Devils score late TD, snatch victory from Juniata

It took a last-minute play, but Greencastle-Antrim’s football squad is on a two-game winning streak after conquering Juniata by a 21-20 score on Friday night.

The Blue Devils (3-5) trailed 20-14 at halftime, but rode their defense until they got their chance late in the game. With just 28 seconds remaining, Greencastle QB Lane Barry found Wyatt Hull for a 12-yard TD pass. Blake Witmer’s extra point turned out to be the game-winner.

The Blue Devils also scored on a long pass play from Barry to Blake Reuter in the first half.

Juniata fell to 5-3.

Greencastle will be aiming to keep its winning streak alive on Friday, when it travels to take on Boiling Springs (1-7), a team coming off a 49-21 loss to Milton Hershey.

Chambersburg 28, Altoona 10

Cam Green connected on three TD passes and Chambersburg’s defense forced six turnovers, as the Trojans surged to a home victory over Altoona in Friday night’s Mid-Penn Commonwealth game.

Green also found Cobe Penick (4 catches, 58 yards) for a four-yard TD pass. Altoona (2-6, 2-5 Commonwealth) held leads of 7-0 and 10-6, but the Mountain Lions’ offense was grounded by two lost fumbles, as well as interceptions recorded by Chambersburg’s Brycen Murray, Brady Rosenberry, Isaiah Tasker, and Penick.

It was the second win in a row from the Trojans (4-4, 3-4), who also got 66 rushing yards and a TD from Malachi Tasker.

Chambersburg hosts Cumberland Valley (3-5, 3-4) on Friday. The Eagles are coming off a 21-16 loss to Harrisburg.

Mechanicsburg scored on its first possession with a TD pass from Noah Apple to Drake Dawson and later doubled its lead to 12-0 when it capped off a nine-play, 72-yard drive with a six-yard scoring run from Rece Miller.

Another rushing score from Miller, as well as an interception return for a TD from Jack DeLuca, had Mechanicsburg leading big at the halftime break.

Waynesboro (2-6, 1-6) got a 75-yard interception return for a score from Steven Howard, while Nick Carbaugh drilled a 43-yard field goal.

The Tribe return to action on Friday, when they host Lower Dauphin (5-3, 5-2), a team coming off a 35-26 win over Mifflin County.
