As it currently stands, two girls volleyball squads from the Local.News1 coverage area — Greencastle-Antrim and Waynesboro — are undefeated in Colonial Division play.
The Blue Devils and Maidens both cruised to 4-0 division records last week, but soon only one of those teams will remain on top of the mountain as they are set to lock horns on Monday evening.
On the football field, Greencastle nailed down its first win of the fall, while Chambersburg suffered its first loss. Girls flag football kicked off last week and it was a victorious start to the season for both North Hagerstown and Smithsburg.
Two area soccer squads — the Chambersburg boys and Fairfield girls — are still unbeaten this fall. The Trojans are tied for the lead in the Commonwealth Division, while the Knights are the No. 1-ranked team in the District 3-1A power rankings.
Chambersburg’s boys and girls cross country teams both landed Top 5 team finishes at the PTXC 16 in Kutztown. The Trojan boys got Top 30 finishes from Julian Clark (2nd), Aiden Alleman (19th), and Cole Lehman (28th), while the girls were highlighted by the efforts of Natalie Quinn (14th), Brooke Boone (26th), and Lillian Spohn (29th). On the Maryland cross country scene, North Hagerstown and Smithsburg both shined at the Zumbach Invitational. The Leopards’ Dylan Herbst (2nd) and Grayson Wynkoop (6th) zipped to fast finishes in the small school boys race, while the Hubs’ Landon Call (8th) and Carson Wilt (12th) were standouts in the large school race. North Hagerstown’s Caroline Philp and Kenzie Philp finished second and third, respectively, in the large school girls race.
Below is a sport-by-sport look at how teams in the Local.News1 coverage area performed last week:
