High school scores and standings from May 5-10

It’s win or go home time for our area squads competing in the MPSSAA postseason.

Smithsburg’s baseball squad kept its season alive with two wins in the 1A West Region II tourney and will play for a region title on Tuesday. North Hagerstown and South Hagerstown both saw their campaigns come to a close with playoff losses last week.

The Hubs and Leopards have been eliminated from both the softball and boys lacrosse postseason, but the Rebels are still churning along in both sports. South Hagerstown’s softball squad is set to play in the region semifinals next week, while the boys lacrosse program advanced to the region title game with a 7-4 win over North Hagerstown.

Staying in Maryland for a moment, the Washington County Track & Field Championships featured standout performances across the board. North Hagerstown’s boys captured the team title and got wins from Walker Mason (3,200), Bradley Helman (1,600), Damean Thomas (shot put), and James Jackson (long jump). As for Hubs girls, Rian Johnson nailed down wins in the 800 and 3,200, while Dayannah Brunson blasted off for victory in the 300 hurdles.

Smithsburg’s girls ran away for victory in the team race and got wins from Jenna Howe (200, 400), Cora Gentzel (1,600), and Lilian Hade (pole vault). Smithsburg’s boys finished second in the team standings and got victories from Tyler Younker (800) and Cadyn Nesbitt (pole vault).

South Hagerstown also crowned multiple champions at the county championships: Felix Annan (100, 200), Cassius Freeman (400), Rhianna Ignasiak (100 hurdles), and Chloe Gietka (long jump, triple jump).

Chambersburg’s track squad hosted the Mid-Penn Championships last weekend, and the Trojans got a win from Liam Kirkpatrick in the 3,200. Greencastle-Antrim’s Noah Parks also won a title, as he surged to victory in the 800 with a time of 1:56.48.

Below is a sport-by-sport look at how teams in the Local.News1 coverage area performed last week:
