The high school sports season will continue for at least one more game for two local softball squads — Chambersburg and Greencastle-Antrim — that qualified for states after strong performances at the District 3 Championships last week.
Chambersburg, the No. 5 seed in the 6A district playoffs, knocked off No. 1-seeded Central Dauphin by a 7-2 score in Tuesday’s semifinal round, before falling 2-1 to No. 2 Cumberland Valley in the championship game. The Trojans will host a state playoff game on Monday against District 1’s fifth-place team: Avon Grove (21-4).
As for the Blue Devils, the No. 1 seed in the 5A district field, they fell to eventual champion Red Land in the semifinals, but rebounded nicely with an 11-0 shutout over Twin Valley in Friday’s third-place game. Greencastle (19-3) will hit the road on Monday to face District 1 champion Marple Newton (20-2) in the first round of states.
