Championship fever continues to run high for the Smithsburg boys indoor track and field squad.
The Leopards, two weeks removed from a Washington County team championship, conquered an even bigger meet last weekend: The 1A West Region Championships. Smithsburg finished as the top team with 76 points over Clear Spring (70) and Liberty (68). The Leopards got wins from Dylan Herbst (1,600) and Dylan Lowe (800).
The 3A West Region Championships saw standout performances from both North Hagerstown’s boys and girls. Walker Mason won the 3,200 in 9:36.96 for the boys, while the girls got victories from Taraji Nartey (300) and Caroline Philp (3,200), as well as their 4×400 relay team.
Chambersburg’s girls wrestling team had a monster week on the mat. The Trojans went 7-0 and finished on top of the Elco Duals. The party isn’t over for Chambersburg (20-5), which has qualified for the District 3 Dual Championships, which begin on Wednesday.
On the boys basketball court, it was a winning week for Chambersburg and Greencastle-Antrim, two programs who are edging closer to spots in the District 3 postseason. The Blue Devils are making a similar playoff push on the girls hardwood, while Smithsburg’s girls pushed their undefeated record to 15-0 last week.
Finally, in the swimming pool, Waynesboro and Chambersburg both swept their respective opponents.
Below is a sport-by-sport look at how teams in the Local.News1 coverage area performed last week:
