Sometimes big things come in small packages.
Fairfield was one of the smallest schools on the wrestling mat at last weekend’s MyHOUSE Trojan Wars in Chambersburg, yet it was the Knights who crowned the heavyweight champion at the end of it all.
Fairfield’s Caleb Tyler made quite the impression at 285 pounds, with the junior going 5-0 to win his weight class and the coveted championship trophy: A trojan helmet.
Tyler was one of six area medalists, with the other five hailing from Chambersburg: Frank Barrientos (7th at 285), Cody Seabolt (8th at 121), Isaac Brambley (8th at 127), Jaccob Stoner (8th at 189), and Deakon Snavely (8th at 215). On the strength of those awards stand finishes, the Trojans finished 11th out of 52 in the team standings.
While action was heating up on the mats in Chambersburg, two Washington County basketball teams kept their undefeated seasons alive. It took overtime, but North Hagerstown’s boys improved to 6-0 with a 67-63 win over Hereford. Smithsburg’s girls ran their unbeaten record to 9-0 after topping Urbana by a 66-53 score.
Greencastle-Antrim’s boys basketball squad also stayed hot, running its winning streak to six games with a 53-49 win over Shippensburg. The Blue Devils are tied for first place in the Mid-Penn Colonial Division.
Below is a sport-by-sport look at how teams in the Local.News1 coverage area performed last week:
