Chambersburg’s girls wrestling squad seems to be getting better every time it steps on the mat.
Coach Joshua Sherman’s Trojans took another big step forward last week, thumping Greencastle-Antrim by a 51-12 score on Thursday, before conquering the field of 21 teams at the Big Spring Bulldog Invitational on Saturday. Chambersburg brought home eight medals and crowned two champions in Aulana Stanton (190 pounds) and Lillybeth Alcantaras (235).
Greencastle’s boys wrestling squad also had a memorable weekend, as the Blue Devils posted a 6-0 record to win the TWC Trojan Battle at York Suburban.
Indoor track heated up last weekend with the Dwight Scott Invite, a meet that saw the Smithsburg boys and North Hagerstown girls win team championships. Winners on the boys side included North Hagerstown’s Walker Mason, who won the 3,200 in 9:41.75, and South Hagerstown’s Torin Sitter, who finished first in the 300 with a time of 36.42. Girls winners included North Hagerstown’s Mackenzie Philp (1,600, 5:31.70) and the Hubs’ 4×200 relay team (1:53.38), as well as South Hagerstown’s Trinity Savage (55, 7.45).
Savage carried her momentum into Saturday at the Dickinson Holiday Meet, capturing victory in the long jump with a leap of 17-4.75, while also posting runner-up finishes in the 55 (7.48) and 200 (27.30). Noah Parks, of Greencastle, also ventured out to Dickinson and seized victory in the 1,600 in 4:38.84.
Finally, on the boys basketball court, North Hagerstown pushed its unbeaten record to 5-0, while Greencastle surged to a tie for the Mid-Penn Colonial Division lead with a 4-0 record.
