It was just a small taste of competition, but the high school sports season officially kicked off last week.
Consider it an appetizer. What comes next is the main course, a buffet that won’t stop until next summer.
Fans should be ready for more after an opening week that saw four squads from the LocalNews1.org coverage area — Greencastle-Antrim, Waynesboro, Chambersburg and Fairfield — tee off the golf campaign.
Led by the sharp 1-2 punch of Camden Eby and Bryce Davidson, Greencastle is off to a 6-4 start in Mid-Penn Colonial Division play after two matches last week. The Trojans and Maidens both picked up their first wins last week.
Fairfield showcased its powers on the golf course in the South Central Athletic Conference Division III season opener. Isabelle Studli won the match, Aden Frank took second, and the Knights collectively shot a 334 to take second in the field of eight teams.
