UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Those interested in learning about methods of safely preserving wild game can attend upcoming Penn State Extension workshops and a webinar.

In recent years, interest in home food preservation has grown, with preservation methods such as canning, freezing and drying allowing people to enjoy the fruits of their hunts for longer, according to organizers.

The “Home Food Preservation: Wild Game” workshop is designed to explain the scientific reasoning behind recommended methods for preserving wild game while dispelling food preservation myths and unsafe practices of the past.

The workshop will occur at the following locations:

Gettysburg: 4-6 p.m. Sept. 14, Penn State Extension Adams County office, 670 Old Harrisburg Road.

St. Marys: 6-8 p.m. Oct. 1, Community Education Center, 4 Erie Ave.

Chambersburg: 1-3 p.m. Oct. 5, Penn State Extension Franklin County office, 181 Franklin Farm Lane.

University Park: 6-8 p.m. Oct. 5, Penn State Erickson Food Science Building, Room 226, 555 Curtin Road.

Emporium: 6-8 p.m. Oct. 8, Cameron County Chamber of Commerce, 24 W Fourth St.

Saegertown: 6-8 p.m. Oct. 15, Penn State Extension Crawford County office, 16871 Craig Road.

Cochranton: 1-2:30 p.m. Nov. 14, Cochranton Public Library, 107 West Pine Street.

The webinar will occur from 6 to 7 p.m. Sept. 24.

Organizers note that space is limited, so preregistration is required. Registration dates vary by event; registration carries a fee of $15 for workshops and $5 for the webinar.

Registration is required to receive the link to access the webinar. A link to the recorded webinar will be emailed to registrants within 10 business days after the live event. The recording will be accessible for six months from the event date.
