High school scores and standings from April 7-12

While Mother Nature was the big winner last week, there were a handful of area squads that were able to shine when the clouds briefly cleared.

North Hagerstown’s baseball team kept its unbeaten season alive at 8-0, while Greencastle-Antrim made strides on both the baseball and softball fields. The Blue Devils softball squad established themselves as favorites to win the Mid-Penn Colonial Division after handing Big Spring its first division loss last week, while Greencastle’s baseball program hammered the Bulldogs by 18 runs to remain in a tie with Boiling Springs for the division lead.

The tennis courts remained dry just long enough for the Chambersburg boys to win both of their matches, while Smithsburg’s girls secured a big victory over previously-unbeaten South Hagerstown.

Speaking of Smithsburg, the Leopards had a big day at the Zonis Invitational, hosted by North Hagerstown. Smithsburg swept the boys and girls team titles and were highlighted by the efforts of sprinter Jenna Howe, who claimed wins in the 100, 200, and 400. Anna Chamberlin, of North Hagerstown, conquered the high jump and triple jump.

Also on the track, Waynesboro’s Gabe Blake returned home as a champion after nailing down a win in the 300 hurdles at the Arctic Blast Invitational at Northern York.

Below is a sport-by-sport look at how teams in the Local.News1 coverage area performed last week:
