Pennsylvania’s individual wrestling postseason kicked off last weekend with the section championships, and there was no shortage of local stars on the mat.
Three area grapplers — Fairfield’s Caleb Tyler, Chambersburg’s Frank Barrientos and Waynesboro’s Steven Howard — all won titles at their respective tournaments, while Greencastle-Antrim’s Silas Robertson landed a runner-up finish.
On the girls side, Chambersburg pinned the competition, with the squad finishing second out of 16 teams at the Section 3 tourney. The Trojans got championships from Jessica Li, Reagan Evans and Aulana Stanton, while third-place finishes were landed by Waynesboro’s Annabelle Tracey and Greencastle-Antrim’s Aniuta Pavlii.
Fairfield’s Samantha Lawler had a sparkling weekeend in the pool at the Mid-Penn Plunge, with the Knights’ standout posting wins in both the 100 breaststroke (1:10.02) and 200 IM (2:26.20).
It was rivalry week on the basketball court for North and South Hagerstown, with the boys and girls enjoying a four-pack of games. North Hagerstown swept the girls games, while the boys games were split, with the Hubs winning the first game 80-77 before the Rebels struck back for a 72-70 victory in the second contest.
Regular season basketball wrapped up in Pennsylvania last week, with Greencastle-Antrim putting the final touches on its championship season in the Mid-Penn Colonial Division. The Blue Devils advance to this week’s district tournament. Chambersburg’s boys and Greencastle’s girls have also qualified for districts.
Below is a sport-by-sport look at how teams in the Local.News1 coverage area performed last week:
