Everything that could have gone right for Joey Hershey at Path Valley Speedway did go right. It’s almost as if someone was watching from above.
Just months after the sudden passing of his father — Curtis Hershey, the owner-operator of Hershey’s Auto Machine in Greencastle — Hershey picked up his first win of the 2025 season on Saturday night. Racing in the Wingless Super Sportsman division, Hershey took advantage of every break that went his way and forged his own luck the rest of the night on his path to Victory Lane.
Hershey started in the second position, and following a restart on the first lap, the top spot was his. While there was a flurry of activity behind him, Hershey held on to the first position until five laps remained. That’s when Craig Perigo pulled ahead for the lead. But then something strange happened: Perigo’s racer appeared to lose power on the third turn.
Hershey cashed in on the power outage, cruising to the win over Donnie Farlling and Brad Mellott.
There’s still more than a month’s worth of points races remaining at Path Valley, but it might be just about time to crown Bradyn Kuhn the king of the 270 Sprints division. Holding a 116-point lead over the division going into Saturday, the Greencastle driver competed in two races and pulled off two Top 5 finishes, taking fourth in the makeup Butch Shatzer Memorial race before surging to victory in the regularly-scheduled 270 Sprints feature. Kuhn’s top competitor — fellow Greencastle driver Aidan Crouse — won the Shatzer Memorial, but actually lost ground in the points race with a DNF for 22nd in the second feature.
Also at Path Valley, St. Thomas driver Doug Sales took fifth in the Thunder Cars, while Waynesboro’s Darren Kauffman posted a sixth-place finish in the 600 Sprints.
Port Royal Speedway held its final program of the season last weekend, with one area driver securing a Top 10 finish. Keith Walls, of St. Thomas, placed 10th in the Limited Late Models feature on Friday.
Hagerstown, Williams Grove, and BAPS Motor Speedways all had the weekend off from racing, while the program scheduled for Lincoln Speedway on Saturday was called off for an inclement weather forecast.
Below is a track-by-track, feature-by-feature look at races from last weekend that included drivers from the Local.News1 coverage area:
