GREENCASTLE, Pa. — Mayor Ben Thomas Jr. invites the public to celebrate the Greencastle-Antrim High School baseball players and coaches this Friday, July 10, at 6 p.m. for the team’s state championship win.
The special event will take place at Center Square in downtown Greencastle, with a stage set up in the square’s northeast corner. Thomas and State Representative Chad Reichard (R-Franklin) are expected to speak.
To honor the baseball team’s historic state championship victory in June in State College, the mayor officially proclaimed this weekend, July 11-12, as “Greencastle-Antrim School District PIAA District 5-A Pennsylvania High School Champions’ Weekend.”
Greencastle-Antrim won its first-ever state championship in mid-June. The Blue Devils’ baseball team captured the PIAA Class 5A state title by defeating the DuBois Beavers 6-5 in a walk-off victory. The title-clinching game, played at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park in State College, lasted 14 innings and set a record as the longest championship game in PIAA annals.
