GREENCASTLE – The borough of Greencastle is abuzz with anticipation as Old Home Week, a cherished tradition since 1902, returns from Aug. 2 to Aug. 9. Held every three years, this weeklong festival unites residents, alumni and visitors through parades, concerts, reunions and events celebrating local pride.
The triennial event, organized by the Old Home Week Committee, draws thousands to the town square for a blend of nostalgia and community spirit. Highlights include the official community photo on Wednesday, Aug. 6, at 11:30 a.m. in the square, with prints available for $40. “It’s a moment to capture our town’s heart,” said Committee Chairperson Sarah Thompson.
On Saturday, Aug. 2, Mars Spring Pool hosts an Artist Studio & Authors Open House and Pirate & Mermaid Day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., offering family-friendly activities. The Troop 99 Concession Stand will operate concurrently, serving refreshments to festival-goers. “These events showcase our local talent and create lasting memories,” Thompson added.
The week features a packed schedule, including a grand parade, live music performances and class reunions, fostering connections among attendees. “Old Home Week is about coming home, whether you’ve been away for years or never left,” said lifelong resident John Miller, 62.
