While we wait for the final laps to tick away from the 2025 auto racing season, now seems like as good of a time as any to review how the points races played out for local drivers this year.
Spoiler alert: It was a great season for Greencastle drivers.
We counted four drivers from Greencastle — Bradyn Kuhn, Brian Booze, Cuyler Upperman and Scott Palmer — that captured points championships this season.
Kuhn faced a stiff challenge all year from fellow Greencastle driver Aidan Crouse in Path Valley Speedway’s 270 Sprints division, but he ultimately pulled away for the championship over Crouse, Fort Loudon’s Zach Glass (3rd), and Fayetteville’s Cory Myers (5th). Also at Path Valley, Chambersburg’s Kevin Bard finished third in the Thunder Cars points, while Greencastle’s DJ Myers placed third in the Late Models standings.
Booze and Upperman were both track champions at Hagerstown Speedway. Booze won the Late Models division by the slimmest of margins, taking the championship with 1,062 points ahead of Codey Breeden (1,026) and Hagerstown’s Wesley Bonebrake (947). Upperman cruised to the points crown in the Crate Late Model division over Chuck Bowie and Allen Whitt Jr. Waynesboro’s Eric Moats just missed a points title in the FWD 4 Cylinder division, taking second behind Nick McDaniel.
At BAPS Motor Speedway, Palmer left no doubts as to who the top driver in the Limited Late Models division was. He piled up 1,585 points to defeat the field by more than 300 points. Palmer got the job done by qualifying for 11 features and landing eight Top 5 finishes, including three victories.
Another Franklin County driver — Chambersburg’s Trevor Gach — captured two points championships, winning both the 600cc Winged and Wingless divisions.
Todd Walls, of Greencastle, finished second in the PA Micro Midgets 500cc division at Linda’s Speedway, while St. Thomas’ Ryan Walls took fourth in the East Coast Legends.
National Sprint Car Hall of Famer Lance Dewease, who turned 60 in October, had another sharp season, with the “Fayetteville Flyer” landing Top 10 points finishes in the 410 Sprints at both Williams Grove (3rd) and Port Royal (7th).
Greencastle’s Gary Stuhler, the 70-year-old National Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer, had a fine season with a fifth-place showing in the Super Late Models division at Port Royal.
