The Greencastle-Antrim Chamber of Commerce is once again calling on community members to participate in their Hometown Hero Banner program. This initiative aims to recognize and honor local servicemen and women who have dedicated their lives to serving the United States Armed Forces.
The program allows residents to sponsor banners featuring Greencastle-Antrim area veterans or active-duty military personnel. These banners display the service person’s name, branch of service, era of service and a photograph. They are prominently displayed on telephone poles throughout Greencastle from Memorial Day to Veterans Day each year.
To be eligible for a banner, nominees must meet specific criteria:
- Have resided in the Greencastle-Antrim area at some point in their life
- Served or currently serving in the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, National Guard or Coast Guard
- Be currently serving, honorably discharged or killed in action
The Chamber is accepting applications for new banners and renewals. Those who have sponsored a banner in the past are reminded that all renewals are due by March 31. Residents unsure about their renewal status are encouraged to contact the Chamber for clarification.
This program not only serves as a tribute to local heroes but also fosters a sense of community pride and patriotism. As the banners line the streets of Greencastle, they create a visual reminder of the sacrifices made by local service members and their families.
