Three Franklin County youth wrestling squads — Chambersburg, Waynesboro, and Greencastle — might want to consider splitting the cost of a school bus to haul out to Harrisburg for this weekend’s CPWA Open Championships at CD East.
That’s because the three schools had a big day at the CPWA West Regional Qualifier, hosted by Waynesboro. As a result, Franklin County will be sending 33 grapplers to the big dance.
Chambersburg, led by champions Trey Ashway (79) and Gabe Creamer (105), finished as the top squad in the 14-team West Regional field with 342. Ashway and Creamer have qualified for the Open Championships, as has Frankie Bryan (2nd at 75), Myles Spidell (2nd at 56), Korbin Carbaugh (2nd at 59), Colt Bryan (3rd at 53), Knox Bryan (4th at 68), Nolan Lobb (4th at 105), Ethan Purcell (4th at 200), Deacon Spidell (5th at 59), Jack Zimmerman (6th at 150), Isaac Kump (6th at 105), Joshua Messenger (6th at 115), Bryce Brady (6th at 200), Maddox Bowers (7th at 50), Isaiah Hurley (7th at 59), Ezra Kump (7th at 75), Abel Hight (7th at 95), and Archer Hight (8th at 95).
Led by champions (53), Ace Beltz (62), and Freedom Young (65), Waynesboro finished fifth in the team standings with 209.5 points. Seven other Tribe wrestlers also qualified for the next round of the postseason: Eli Hind (2nd at 71), Colton Ogburn (2nd at 115), Issac Fann (3rd at 53), Brixton Hollimon (4th at 65), Griffin Alexander (7th at 200), Kristianna Kayhoe (8th at 53), and Nolan Geesaman (8th at 130).
Finally, Greencastle champion Ethan Allen (130) and three other Blue Devils — Liam Dietrich (4th at 130), Brady Skates (4th at 150), Elijah Pradhan (8th at 47) — have qualified for the Open.
